The other day, Greg Cook took the Orange Line to Oak Grove, then walked about 15 minutes up to the Cascade, a 40-foot waterfall on Shilly Shally Brook in Melrose's part of the Middlesex Fells. He has more photos at the link, and more specific directions.

WBZ reports on the arraignment of Brady McCue, charged with smashing a woman in the head with a rock and repeatedly raping her on a trail in the Middlesex Fells last week. Police were led to him in part by a coffee cup left at the scene.

Jack Ridge, a geology professor at Tufts, has, with the help of some of his students, created a series of guides to geology walking tours of the Middlesex Fells. The guides are an outgrowth of his interest in better describing the geology of the hills and valleys he likes to hike.

Fire in Middlesex Fells

A roving UHub photographer was out for a hike with his family in the Middlesex Fells this morning:

Some jerks left a fire pit and a bunch of beer cans which led to the fire. It was about 100yds long and pretty deep in at the time we found it. Melrose fire called.
