Update: Union Square shutdown delayed until at least September.

The MBTA announced today that the Green Line Extension will be shut between Lechmere and Union Square for six weeks starting July 18, not because there's anything wrong with the tracks this time, but so MassDOT can make repairs to the Squires Bridge, over which McGrath Highway crosses the tracks near Union Square. Yeah, about that. The T announced today the Orange Line would be shut between Ruggles and North Station because of the ongoing Government Center Garage demolition, but a Globe reporter got curious and asked why Ruggles and the T acknowledged it was also to do more work to eliminate the slow zones that it had earlier said it would eliminate during the shutdown, except it turns out they didn't.

Green Line service has been replaced by buses between Lechmere and Government Center. The Orange Line is shut between North Station and Back Bay, "until further notice," the T says. Read more.

The no-nonsense pizzeria originally opened as Al Capone's.
