Transit Police report arresting eight alleged knuckleheads on St. Patrick's Day, all from out of town.
The alleged miscreants include two teens from the Attleboros breaking overhead lights on an inbound Franklin Line train in the morning, a drunken guy from some Maine town with a population of around 2,500 who punched a guy in the face at Broadway station and dudes from Swansea and Bristol, RI who tried to muscle their way to the front of the line for an outbound Providence Line and who, when told to knock it off by a female TPD cop "immediately referred to [her] as a word that begins with a B and word that begins with a C" and then tried pushing her out of the way as well.
Also arrested: A Franklin guy and a bro from Clinton who got into some bare-knuckle brawling when the Franklin guy tried to muscle his way through a South Station crowd and the Franklin guy objected, first verbally and then by tackling him to the ground. Transit Police did not say if they were put in separate cruisers for the ride to booking at TPD headquarters on Southampton Street.
Meanwhile, up at North Station, police restrained a Billerica man who was busy smashing another guy's head into the ground. Keenean Parlin, 21, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon - the ground.
Innocent, etc.

Wow. Are all Irish people drunken louts? I was there with my little grand nieces and family and I didn't see any badly behaved people along the parade route. We've been judged ever since we arrived at Ellis Island. I guess I'll always be considered a drunk by people who don't know me.

There's a difference between saying drunken louts are attracted to the parade and saying that all people of Irish descent are drunken louts. The original poster said the first, which this news item would seem to confirm, even if I failed to include the part about the Transit Police "intercepting" far more people consuming alcohol in public. He did not accuse Irish-Americans of anything and, if you read the thing I posted yesterday about the parade in Scituate, you would note that he spent the day in the most heavily Irish town in all America and had a grand time.

Okay, so a handful of suburbanites were arrested at the Southie St. Patrick's parade, but the majority of suburbanites were NOT arrested so calm down, Ron.

I noticed a lot of bad behavior this weekend. For instance two loud drunk parties at 11am on Saturday morning on my street. I think the city should begin to approach this the same way they do the sporting event celebrations. I saw no preplanning or warnings for this weekend, except for the parade and I am not near that area.

How would the city know your neighbors were going to have a party on a Saturday morning?

So, encourage people to throw full cans of shitty beer at each other? Not too much of a change, really.

Caused by crowding

Some of these issues seem to stem from the T not running enough Commuter Rail service on days with events like this.
And it's not like this parade doesn't happen every year.
How hard would it be for the T to have a special weekend events schedule and run it when crowds are expected? With, say, a train every hour instead of every two to three. We don't need 9-to-5 rush hour service, but a bit more in the midday would do wonders. They do provide extra service to Salem in October, so why not extra service for events like this?
How so?

How is a shortage of trains in any way a cause of violent thugs acting like violent thugs?

"forcefully pushing his way through the crowd at South Station."

Here on my home planet, the usual response to a crowd of people waiting to board trains is to join the end of the queue and await one's turn, not to push violently through the crowd.
The problem is 100% the thug's fault and 0% the MBTA's fault.

I passed through South Station around 11 am, on the way to the Scituate parade, and saw some posters or leaflets about extra trains for people leaving the Boston parade.

Vulgarians

I swear it seems like a lot of these suburbanites, out of towners and blow ins save up all their bad behavior so they can come to Boston one day a year, be it a sports parade, a St. Patrick's parade, or some other event, and act like vulgarians. As if it is somehow allowable here but not where they come from.

Suburbanites who grew up on legends of brawls over bargains would come to the Basement in the 90s and throw (unnecessary) random elbows. SMH

For a decent number of suburbanites, "the city" exists in the mind solely as a place where you go to drink and get rowdy, because that's all that they, personally, ever do there.

Situations like these only happen for St. Pat's Day, Duck Boat Day and maybe the occasional afternoon Sox game. By next week we'll all forget about it.
