A Boston health inspector yesterday shut Sushi Today, 1562 Tremont St., after finding numerous things wrong in the kitchen, including rodent "droppings on food prep counters, cabinets, ledges, and around equipment," improper thawing, food meant to be refrigerated being left at room temperature and no soap at a hand-washing sink.
Also found: "prep sink with foul smelling water backed up into basin" and general evidence the place was not complying with basic food-handling safety requirements.
Thawing raw salmon and raw white fish in package in metal pan in refrigerator with cooked octopus. Discussed with PIC [person in charge] how contamination can occur between raw and ready to eat(cooked) foods. PIC voluntarily disposed of cooked octopus.
The restaurant can re-open after it passes a re-inspection and provides proof of a visit by a licensed exterminator and files a new food-handling safety plan.

This is why I only trust real sushi at fancy real Japanese restaurants. Otherwise its Cali rolls. You can still get sick from Cali rolls but I could just imagine how sick you could get from raw fish that has been left out :o
I've never trusted sushi, anyhow.

I've never trusted sushi anyhow, because I don't trust raw fish, generally. The situation with "Sushi Today" has re-enforced my distrust for any raw fish, including Sushi.

I bought a pair of Adidas in that place...in 2005. I miss that skate shop and I'm straight on Mission Hill sushi :/

But mixing raw and cooked items? Any presence of rodent droppings, but especially anywhere above floor level? Not having soap in a hand-washing sink (not as bad, since presumably you can wash up at other sinks, but a very low bar)? Also, sponges used to clean equipment? (No! Must have bleach/disinfectant!)

I work in Brigham Circle and walk by that place everyday when walking to Ruggles. My suspicions are now confirmed.

It sounds as if the owner/proprietor of that Mission Hill place called "Sushi Today" really deserved to have that place closed down by the health and sanitation department if they allowed the sanitation and health conditions to deteriorate to such a low point!
No sympathy for the owner of "Sushi Today".
