Roving UHub commuter Brendan H. filed this visage from an outbound Red Line train hurtling between Kendall and Harvard this afternoon, says it was only the first two or three cars on the superannuated train. Maybe the fluorescent tubes all burned out on the new Kessel Run on the Braintree branch, which train drivers can now do in just 12 parsecs, um, 50 m.p.h.

It's ok. MBTA rider boot camp. This is just an exercise to harden y'all up to prepare for the upcoming life threatening humidity, extreme heat, over crowded, broken AC. death traps when the train breaks down in the tunnel dungeons. No audible voice on intercoms. Yeah. Wwwahhhhhaaahahahaaaaaa!!!!

I’ve been in this Red Line car( or others just like this one ) twice in the last 2 months. The old cars are quite literally falling apart. And they are friggin filthy too. It’s a race against time for the new cars to replace the old cars before a terrible disaster happens.

JFC - The trauma of being in low light for 180 seconds must really make the local counseling community salivate.
This happens every once in a while and has been for decades.

...were running in 1975, when I came to Cambridge.
That was fifty years ago.
I remember that the 1500s used to have cabs on both ends, so they could run as single units. That was changed at some point, and they now run in pairs like the 1600s, with a cab only on each end of the pair.
But they're still the same old cars. The instructions in the cabs are probably written in Old High Gallifreyan.
