In today's deliciously snippy if ultimately irrelevant to 99.9% of us column by Alex Beam, we learn that Alex doesn't make $250,000 a year for writing two columns a week. Hmm, but how much, one wonders, does Dan "Five Columns in One Week" Shaughnessy pull down? Although one also wonders if he gets docked for recycling month-old columns.

Um...you might want to re-read that paragraph.

He's saying he doesn't make that much.
I think you misread it

$250,000 isn't Beam's income, it's the minimum income to "qualify" to receive Boston Common.
Yes, you are both right

I initially read that as "Beam admits to $250,000 a year, but even that isn't enough to read Boston Common." I should learn to read better; in the meantime, I've changed the item (for those of you just wandering in).
the only thing I remember

the only thing I remember about Alex Beam is him going after James Lileks in 2001 about how bloggers and their opinions aren't as valued as "professional" journalists, how no one will EVER listen to the opinions of the vast unwashed masses, and how he couldn't believe Lileks kept a blog.
