Boston Police report officers who initially stopped a driver they watched speed through two red lights in a car with excessive tint early Friday arrested him for the the two bags of crack and roughly $24,000 in stolen checks they say he had in the car.
Police say officers patrolling Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury first spotted a car with what seemed like excessive window tinting "make an unsafe lane change" and then speed up and blast through two red lights, around 2 a.m. on Friday.
At this time, officers activated their marked cruiser’s lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop in the area of Warren Street and Woodbine Street. Officers made contact with the operator and he advised officers that his license was suspended.
Officers requested the operator to exit the vehicle, and conducted a motor vehicle inventory search. Officers recovered two plastic bags of crack cocaine, and placed the suspect into handcuffs. Officers searched the suspect, and recovered multiple checks with various names and companies on them. None of the checks were issued to the suspects.
Officers later determined that the crack cocaine weighed approximately 16 grams. Officers seized twenty-nine checks with a total amount of $24,078.77.
Kewin Paul, 26, of Roxbury, was charged with receiving stolen property over $1,200, possession of a Class B drug with intent to distribute and driving without a license, police say, adding they also wrote him a ticket for various driving infractions.
At his arraignment later in the day in Roxbury Municipal Court, Judge Kevin Fiandaca initially said he would release Paul on personal recognizance, but then ordered him to the Suffolk County jail because his arrest violated his bail conditions for an earlier arrest in Lowell, court records show. He is scheduled to return to court on March 21, records show.
Innocent, etc.
